Ann FOWLES

She was tried at Old Bailey, London on 6 April 1785 for stealing clothing with a value of 56 shillings. She was sentenced to transportation for 7 years and left England on the Lady Penrhyn aged about 22 at that time (May 1787). Her occupation was listed as hawker. She died in 1826(?).

Notes: She was transported with her four year old daughter.For a number of years she lived with John Ruglass.On 13 February 1789 she received 25 lashes for abusing a sentinel; on 25 June, for stealing clothing it was 50 lashes on three successive Thursdays , her head shaved and a cap with the word THIEF on it; on 27 April 1790 25 lashes for allowing pigs in her garden and 75 lashes on 15 February 1791 for stealing and killing a hen.
