Robert SIDAWAY/SIDEWAY

He was tried at Old Bailey, London on 16 October 1782 for stealing material. He was sentenced to transportation for life having been originally sentenced to death, and left England on the Friendship aged about 29 at that time (May 1787). His occupation was listed as watchcase maker. He died in 1809.

Notes: Guilty of return from transport following the Mercury mutiny, in which he was wounded.Report from Dunkirk hulk was that he had behaved “remarkably well”.Described at his death as “a true philanthropist and a valuable member of society, in which he was universally respected.”Lived with Mary Marshall (Senior) from the time of landing until his death in 1806.
