John JEFFRIES
He
was tried at
Maidstone, Kent
on
11 July 1785 for stealing a silver watch, steel chain, brass key with a value of 40 shillings.
He
was sentenced to transportation for
7 years
and left England on the
Alexander
aged about 26 at that time (May 1787).
His occupation was listed as labourer. He died in 1813.

Received 50 of 100 lashes for getting lost while looking for greens when he should have been at work. Ordered 200 lashes for stealing several pounds of sugar in June 1790.Became an approved baker.
