Richard PARTRIDGE/RICE
He
was tried at
Old Bailey, London
on
10 September 1783 for stealing clothing with a value of 7 shillings.
He
was sentenced to transportation for
life having been originally sentenced to death,
and left England on the
Scarborough
aged about 30 at that time (May 1787).
He had no occupation recorded.

Guilty of return from transport following the Swift mutiny. Night watch member. Known in NSW as “Rice - the left handed flogger”.On 3 November 1793 he fathered a son with Mary Greenwood. Richard Partridge was probably related to the George Partridge, Mary’s partner in crime, with whom she lived in London. Richard and Mary had a daughter in 1797 and were married on 5 November 1810.
