John POWER

He was tried at Old Bailey, London on 14 December 1785 for stealing timber with a value of 280 shillings. He was sentenced to transportation for 7 years and left England on the Alexander aged about 24 at that time (May 1787). He had no occupation recorded.

Notes: Attempted to escape at Teneriffe, while he was working as a seaman.Ringleader of plot with crew members to take over the Alexander.Sentenced to 200 lashes on 1 November 1788 for theft of boards.
