James BIRD

He was tried at Croydon, Surrey on 20 July 1785 for stealing bags of saltpetre with a value of 65 shillings. He was sentenced to transportation for 7 years and left England on the Alexander aged about 39 at that time (May 1787). His occupation was listed as labourer.

Notes: Partner in the original crime was Samuel Bird.On 20 July 1789 sentenced to receive 100 lashes for stealing fish.
