John HERBERT

He was tried at Exeter, Devon on 14 March 1785 for assault and highway robbery with a value of 36 shillings. He was sentenced to transportation for 7 years having been originally sentenced to death, and left England on the Charlotte aged about 26 at that time (May 1787). He had no occupation recorded. He died in 1832.

Notes: Partner in the original crime was John Small.Report from Dunkirk hulk was “troublesome at times”.Married Deborah Ellam on 2 April 1788 and had seven children.
