John SMALL

He was tried at Exeter, Devon on 14 March 1785 for assault and highway robbery with a value of 36 shillings. He was sentenced to transportation for 7 years having been originally sentenced to death, and left England on the Charlotte aged about 26 at that time (May 1787). His occupation was listed as ex marine. He died in 1850.

Notes: Partner in the original crime was John Herbert.Report from Dunkirk hulk was “troublesome at times”. Member of the night watch for 17 years from 1808.Married Mary Parker on 12 October 1788 and had 7 children and 74 grandchildren.
